Welcome to The Book Guardians!

We sincerely hope that this site is a blessing to you, and that it will help you in deciding which books are a good fit for your family!

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23

About Us!/ Meet the Authors!

*Very Blessed Mamma (Rodna):
I am a homeschool mom of two beautiful children, and wife to a wonderful husband of 13 years.
We have been homeschooling for 9 years now! WOW!
I love to homeschool, and I have recently taken on learning how to cook, and make my own household cleaners and such.
Currently a city girl, but soon to be moving to the country. That should be an adventure for sure! HA
I thought of creating this site because I know how much time it takes to proof read all of the books that we hand to our children, and I thought that if several of us mothers worked together to post about all of the books we are reading, it might help us all in the decision making process.
I look forward to being able to help you in the choosing of your books for your children.

*Kelly @ Walking Home:
I am a homeschooling mom to three children - 7, 5, and 1 - and I am married to my soul mate.  We have been married for 10 years this past year.
We began homeschooling before we had children of our own and now that we are in the 4th full year of homeschooling we love it!  We teach from a classical style with a mix of some Charlotte Mason as well as unit studies.
I am so pleased to be a part of this wonderful site and helping you whittle down the many choices of books for your children.

*April@ homeschooling (and then some!)
I am a homeschooling mom to three daughters who are 14, 6, and 4. I have been married to my best friend for seven years.
We have been homeschooling for three years, although it seems like forever! I am very blessed to be able to stay home and do what I love with my children, and can't seem to remember what life was like before we were called on this journey. Every single day I am thankful for the abundant blessings in my life.
We take an eclectic approach in our homeschool-a great mix of Classical, Charlotte Mason, unit studies, lapbooks...really a little bit of everything!
I am very excited to be a part of this site. I'm looking forward to being able to lend a hand in helping you choose great books for your children!

*McMama@RubySlippers
I am McMama, the Mama of 4 crazy little nuggets that keep me busy! We have three girls and one wild boy. Their ages are 8, 6, almost 5 and 22 months. I have been married to the best McPop for 10 years and grow to love him more each day.
We began homeschooling (with me knowing that it would last a year at best) when our oldest was younger than I'd like to admit! Five years later we still homeschool and I LOVE it!! Our style is totally eclectic so anything that catches our eye we implement (that means change it so much from what it originally was that it is no longer the original but "ours"!)
These past couple of years I have spent reading about and falling in love with "living books" and "rich literature". And because of this new found love I have been very busy purchasing these treasures at any and all second hand shops that I can find!
I am excited to be one small part of a great group of women who have dedicated their time to share the treasures that we find with any who may be interested! It is my desire that a book that you read about here become a treasure in your own home.

*Katrina @ Mama Manuscripts
I'm Katrina proud homeschooling Mama to 3 wild and wonderful children ages 7, 5 and newish! We love to read, write and draw in this household and most of our homeschool incorporates these activities. Our approach is very laid back and we take each day as it goes while living a simple life on beautiful Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

I love finding quality books for my children and hope that the guidance you find here will help you find books that work well for your family no matter what type of books you enjoy.

*Laura O @ Day by Day in Our World
I'm Laura, homeschooling mom with four boys living the adventure up in Alaska now.  Our family began our homeschooling adventure back in 2007 after becoming dissatisfied with things at our church's school.  Our eldest son hated to read when we pulled him from school, but within a few months was often found with his nose in a book.  The other boys are also big readers, just like their Mom!

We read a wide variety of books, including a few that some friends avoid.  Occasionally, though, we have been surprised by content and wish we had some advance warning.  This is especially true when doing an audiobook in the car where ALL ages are listening.  Hence, our excitement about this new site as an avenue to learn more about the books we might want to read before we read them.

My name is Blossom, or you may have seen me online as North Laurel. We've been homeschooling for almost 8 years. We have one in college now and one finishing 11th grade.
We are definitely a family of readers. Our local libraries had been very small and a bit slim on pickings for good books but when we moved to a suburb of a huge city, the selection really opened up for us. Some of the books brought home we don't know what they are really about (what's inside)- and that's a bit worrisome!
We are in the process of building up a home library to open a lending library of good books. I love the purpose behind this blog: to be able to let others know what to expect in a book that they've not read. We read a lot of books and all kinds. I am happy to be able to share what we've discovered about a book you might be wondering about :)

*Erin (6intow) @ Delighting in His Richness

When we first decided not to outsource our children’s education, we found ourselves swimming upstream. Living counter-culture brings challenges on many fronts including the choosing of entertainment, right down to the books we read. I desire that my six children have quality, God-honoring books to read, and lots of them. From the baby to the teenager (3 boys, 3 girls), we spend our days mostly together learning through life, some textbooks, and lots of real books.

My husband of 17 years keeps me happy and sane, and we have the joy of following Christ together. Having a God-molded home is a top priority and homeschooling has become a significant part of that. And, since reading shapes a lot of our homeschooling, a site like this offers a critical tool to making that happen. Excited to be a part of it!

*McMahonmom...
I am a homeschooling mother of 7 blessings... my oldest child is twelve and my youngest is not quite one yet.  Four of my children are 5 and under, so I am one busy Mom!  I have two babies who came to us from the Lord by international adoption, and the other 5 were knit together in Mommy's womb.  I have been a helpmeet to my loving husband for the past 13 years.  We are going on our seventh year of schooling at home, and we are grateful for every minute of it.  My favorite school subject is READING and I am the proud mamma of three bookworms.  :)  I am loved beyond measure by the Lord Jesus Christ and proclaim His goodness every day!  I love great books, but don't necessarily feel that the "classics" are all that classic... My preference is always a good book that edifies our walk with the Lord in some form or fashion.  I look forward to giving you our insight to the books that my family is reading.

Nakeisha James @ Zipporah Beauty,LLC (Experiencing Beauty Naturally)
I'm a homeschooling mom of 3 (Kevyn 7, Kealyn 6,and Kaleia 4) I'm also happily married to my wonderful hubby for 9 yrs!! With God in the center of our relationship we have an amazing marriage & family life!! It is never boring in my house :) There's always something going on like: homeschooling, reading, playing, yelling, running around the house, coloring on the walls, watching smile of a child network, one of the kids taking a late nap which means me making a cup of coffee in the evenings :),me making hair & body products, exercising, and the list goes on....I'm so thankful for my sister in law who God used to open my eyes on homeschooling my kids (thank you sis!!) My kids are enjoying me reading to them more now than ever so I'm glad there's a place for me to check on different books I can read to them or they can read for themselves.
I just started a group on facebook called *I Love Being A Homeschool Mom so if you're on facebook please join :)
Much Love & Blessing to all you lovely homeschoolers!!

Sherrie DeBell @ LampLighters
First and foremost, I am a child of God just trying to work out my own salvation with the LORD day by day.  We have walked together for going on 30 years now, and it has been quite a roller coaster ride... oh, but for the grace of God... Thank you, Jesus!!!

I have been married to my best friend, Jay, whom I lovingly compare to Ghandi (sacrifices everything for the cause), for 17 years now and we grow closer every day.  Together we juggle about 6 jobs (some meaningful, some just tent-making) and are constantly amazed at how God meets are needs.  We have 3 children (Jacquelyn 7, Juliana 4, and Javan 1) whom we have homeschooled from the beginning.  Now in our fourth year of "official" education, we use a Charlotte Mason / Classical approach.

As our children grow in this world, we try to teach them how to discern for themselves the everlasting truth from the popular culture in order that they might walk in the grace of God and be both salt and light to the world around them.  May God help us in our endeavors.

We are fairly new to homeschooling, this is our second year, and we are LOVING it!  We have ds14 (8th grade) and ds2 (Pre-PreK).  I have been married to a wonderful God-fearing, God-loving, God-guided man since 2006...and I am SO VERY THANKFUL to the Lord for bringing this man into my life!

I am VERY excited Rodna started this site...I feel blessed to be a part of it and hope it is a blessing to many!  We understand the importance of what we put in our childrens hands...so we hope this site helps ease that burden for you.  Enjoy!
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Phillipians 4:8
